In June, San Francisco voters approved Prop F — often referred to as No Eviction Without Representation — which will create a right to counsel for San Francisco tenants facing eviction. Now, the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development has announced that the City will allocate $5.8 million in funding to 11 different tenant groups to provide free attorneys to fight evictions as part of the San Francisco Tenant Right to Counsel Program.
The 11 organizations are the Eviction Defense Collaborative, AIDS Legal Referral Panel, Asian Law Caucus, Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach, Bay Area Legal Aid, La Raza Centro Legal, Legal Assistance to the Elderly, Open Door Legal, Tenderloin Housing Clinic, the Bar Association of San Francisco, and the Justice & Diversity Center.
San Francisco joins New York City as the only cities to provide a right to an attorney for tenants facing eviction.
